You’re a Churchbag

There are times in every parent’s life when they look at their children and can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of pride.  Your son may have just won the big debate match.  Your daughter may have scored the winning something for whatever sporting event she is currently participating in.  You just show up, but are proud nonetheless.

Of course, because life isn’t made up of big events, you also feel pride in the everyday things.  Your children being polite to each other.  Being able to sit down to a meal out with three and one-year old boys and not having anyone collapse, barf or scream.  These are also moments to appreciate and cherish.  I especially cherish non-barf moments.  Joey’s superpower is barfing at will.

This morning there was a verbal exchange between Joey, the three-year-old, and myself and I am not sure whether I am proud or…something else.  Scared?  Confused? Somewhere among all three of those, I think.

Me: Joey, get out of the kitchen you shitbag. (said jokingly and with as much love as a mother of a shitbag can muster).

Joey: You’re a churchbag!

Churchbag?  How in the sam hell did he come up with that one?  I don’t know if Joey has ever been to a church.  I am not sure he even knows what it is.  It must have been the way he interpreted what I said.

Now, I feel the need to explain a little bit about our spiritual identity before someone starts thinking that I hate churches and wish my children to avoid them. While my husband and I are technically not Christian, we are not against any religion.  We would like to teach our children HOW to think and not what to think.  Once a child reaches the age of reason, they will be allowed to explore anything they want, until then all questions will be answered with unbiased fact.

I just really hope they don’t grow up to be churchbags because I have NO fucking idea what that is or how to deal with one.

**On a side note, I will be participating in the Beauty of a Woman BlogFest IV this month in an attempt to grow as a blogger and finally get some damn substance to my writing.

I will be sure to keep everyone posted on the details and how you can read my post and the posts of all of the participants.

Nice, he combined a “what about” with a “-bag” retort. How… unconventional. haha
